Introduction

Don't rely on trading posts to sell all of the good you scavenge or pirate. Trading posts pay the least for your goods, you'll do much better selling to specialty shops. Obviously, if you're a Trader, specialty businesses are the mainstay of your clients.

You should try to become aware of the nearest place you can sell your goods for top dollar no matter what crater you're in. This means you need to know who buys what and where they are located. Below is an overview.

Food Note: Almost all businesses buy Food and pay better than the trading posts. Bars pay the most for food as a rule. The problem with Food is that businessess only need a little (5 units or so) at a time. Bars often get overstocked on Food quickly. So, you may have to hold on to Food later in the game and sell a little as you trade other items.

Component Shops

Component shops make Cells, MachParts, and Drones among other things. There are three major component shops:

Downtown Components, Downtown

Craven Components, Alpha

Riverside Parts, Riverside

These shops buy a wide variety of items, are reliable buyers and pay good money. Here's what component shops buy:

Chemicals

Pure Water

Gems

Sheet Metal

ExMetal

Plastics

Weapons Shops

There are two kinds of weapons shops: manufacturers and retailers. Lets deal with weapons manufactures first. The three big weapons manufacturers are:

Downtown Munitions, Downtown

Dr. Jobe's Weapons Shop, Gamma

Specialty Arms, Highrise

These shops buy many of the items that component shops do with some big exceptions like paying top dollar for valuable Explosives. Here's what they buy:

Sheet Metal

ExMetal

Plastics

Gems

Explosives

MachParts

CompComp

Weapons manufacturers tend to stock up quickly on their needs and are not as reliable a buyer as component shops and moth dealers. They are, however, about the only good place to sell Explosives. Weapons manufacturers do not purchase finished weapons.

Weapons retailers only buy finished weapons -- cannons, missiles, Flares, StarShells. They do not buy the mid-production items purchased by weapons manufacturers. Finished weapons are the most valuable items on Titan so try to get to a weapons retailer to sell them. The weapons retailers are:

Psycho Bob's 1, Downtown (near the Alpha Tunnel entrance)

Psycho Bob's 2, Downtown (Trade Central complex)

Klamp-G Weapons Shop, Riverside

Laz Weapons Shop, Highrise

Resevoir Central, Resevoir

Moth Dealers

There are three moth dealers on Titan:

Downtown Moths, Downtown

Bargain Moths, Downtown

Highrise Motors, Highrise

Moth dealers buy a wide variety of items and are reliable buyers. Stock them well enough and they just may make an exotic Moth like a Police Moth or Swallow. Here's what they buy:

Sheet Metal

Plastics

MachParts

CompComp

Ore

Cells (1-3)

Laser

Moth Dealers will generally give you more money for their required items than any other buyer.

Garages

There are a variety of moth repair shops in Misplaced Optimism. These are easy to locate on your "Local Services" menu. There are the Breaker Makers, Garidge, The Knocking Ship, and others.

Garages buy stuff that no one else does. Here's a list of the stuff they'll buy:

All Cells, including Cell #4 and Fusion Cells

Pods & Drones

Engines

It's rare you come across pods and engines, but garages are an excellent place to sale cells and drones.

Bars

There are bars all over Titan. Below are some of the best to do business with.

Flyer's Retreat, Gamma (best)

The Afterdark, Downtown

The Waterfront, Riverside

The Slum, Riverside

Jupiter 4

There are other bars, like the Shanty Inn, but the ones above are the best buyers. This is particularly true of Flyer's Retreat and The Waterfront.

Bars buy all contraband items and pay top dollar for Food. Always try to sell your Food at a bar before someone else. Here's a list of contraband items:

Alcohol

Narcotics

Huskar Cigars

Bars pay substantially more for these items than do trading posts. Contraband is very common in Misplaced Optimism, so it's always a good idea to keep the nearest bar in mind.

Recyclers

Recyclers only buy Scrap Metal, but they pay more than trading posts for it. This is important because you usually trade Scrap Metal in bulk. The three recyclers on Titan are:

Downtown Recycling, Downtown

The Junkyard, Riverside

The Recycle Joint, Highrise

Ore Processors

There are three ore processing plants on Titan that will pay you much better for Ore than the trading posts. Like Scrap Metal, Ore is generally traded in bulk, so it's doubly important to get a good price. These businesses only buy Ore and Food.

Ore Processing, Downtown (near Light Well #3)

Ore Processing 2, Downtown (in the "Downtown" complex)

Ore House, Riverside

When you need to sell Ore, it's always a good idea to check with the moth dealers first. They'll pay top dollar. The ore processing plants are a close second choice.

Summary

As you gain experience in playing Hardwar, knowing where to sell stuff becomes second nature. Starting out you should train yourself always be aware of at least the nearest bar and component or weapons shop. These will cover the cargos you are most likely to come across.

Don't sell at trading posts unless absolutely necessary. It's better to hoard stuff in your hangar and wait until the specialty shops are buying again.
